2006년 독일 월드컵에 처녀 출전한 코트디부아르는 비록 16강 진출은 실패했지만 이번 대회 참가를 통해
국가 이미지 제고에 지대한 공헌을 한 것으로 보여진다. 월드컵 단골손님인 아르헨티나와 네덜란드 그리고
유럽 지역예선에서 인상적인 경기력을 보여준 세르비아-몬테네그로와 같은 조에 편성되어 처음 월드컵에
출전하는 코트디부아르로서는 결코 반갑지 않은 상황을 맞이하며 최악의 조편성에 의한 희생양이 되고
말았지만 끈끈하고 의욕적이며 에너지가 넘치는 그들의 플레이 스타일은 축구 강국들에게도 큰 위협으로
작용했다. 코트디부아르의 월드컵 축제는 아쉽게도 일찍 끝났다. 하지만 미래 축구 강국으로서 무한한
잠재력을 보여준 그 열정적인 경기 모습은 아직도 축구팬의 가슴에서 쉽게 지워지지 않는다.
차기 월드컵에서 코트디부아르가 아프리카의 명예를 걸고 전 세계인의 이목을 집중시킬 '검은 태풍'으로
떠오를지 두고 볼 일이다.
코트디부아르는 2006년 8월 7일, 46번째 독립기념일을 맞이한다. '아이보리코스트'로 더 많이 알려진
서부 아프리카 중심국가, 코트디부아르. 1893년 3월 10일 프랑스의 식민지가 되어 첫 총독으로 프랑스의
뱅제(Binger)대위가 부임한 이후 코트디부아르는 1904년부터 1958년까지 세네갈의 다카르에 주도(主都)를
둔 프랑스령 서아프리카 연방에 편입된다. 1956년 해외개혁법이 제정되어 프랑스로부터 서아프리카 연방 각
국가에게 여러 권한이 이양된다.이후 1958년 12월 국민투표를 거쳐 프랑스령 서아프리카 연방의 일원임과
동시에 자주적인 공화국임을 선포하여 독립을 위한 발판을 마련했다.
코트디부아르는 서부 아프리카 연안에 위치하여 북쪽으로는 말리와 부르키나파소, 동쪽으로는 가나, 서쪽
으로는 리베리아와 기니가 위치하고 있으며 남쪽으로는 대서양과 접하고 있다. 공용어는 프랑스어이지만,
그 외 60개가 넘는 소수민족들의 다양한 방언도 존재한다.
대통령중심제 기반의 다당제 민주주의를 정치체제로 삼고 있으며 공화국 대통령과 국회의원, 시장은
5년 임기로 보통 선거를 통해 선출된다. 196개의 군, 58개의 도, 19개의 지방으로 나뉘어져 있으며 농업,
농가공업과 대체산업이 경제의 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다. 대표적인 생산품으로는 카카오, 커피, 목재,
천연고무, 바나나, 감귤류가 있다. 특히 코트디부아르는 세계 최대의 카카오 생산국으로 유명하다.
금, 다이아몬드, 망간, 철 등의 광물자원도 풍부하고 해양 유전과 천연가스 등 에너지 자원도 보유하고 있다.
정치적인 위기에도 불구하고 경제상황은 비교적 좋은 편이며 관광자원도 풍부하다.
식민지 시대의 유적과 의상박물관이 있는 코트디부아르의 첫번째 수도였던 그랑바삼, 해수욕장으로 유명한
아시니와 아수앵데, 유네스코 지정 세계문화유산으로 등재되어 있는 타이국립공원을 비롯한 여러 국립공원,
수도인 야무스크로의 평화의 노트르담 대성당, 아름다운 해안으로 유명한 제2의 항구도시 상 페트로,
그랑베르비의 인어의 만, 아비쟝 시의 역사박물관 등이 대표적인 관광지다. 그리고 직물 및 손으로 염색한
코로고의 작품들, 가면과 미술품들도 유명하다. 세계적인 호텔 체인과 골프장도 수준급이다.

주한 코트디부아르 코피(KOFFI)대사는 독립기념일 46주년에 즈음하여 양국간의 경제적
우호관계 증진에 대해 이같이 밝혔다.
코트디부아를 1961년 한국과 외교관계를 수립한 이후 민주적 가치, 무역진흥, 세계평화, 대화를 통한
분쟁해결 등의 여러 국제적인 이슈에 대한 시각을 한국과 공유하고 있다. 진실한 양자, 다자적 관계를
유지하고 있으며 한국국제협력단(KOICA)이 양국의 협력증진에 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있다.
아프리카가 겪고 있는 경제적인 문제의 해결을 위해 코트디부아르는 한-아프리카의 경제협력을 위한
장관급 회의가 2006년 4월 서울에서 개최된 것을 매우 고무적으로 평가하고 있다.
여러 천연자원과 수많은 사업분야 진출 가능성이 높은 코트디부아르는 현재 한국 기업인들의
적극적인 투자를 환영하고 있으며 외국인 투자에 우호적인 법령과 투자에 필요한 경제적 인프라를
구축하고 있다. 특히 한국의 경제, 사회, IT분야의 우수성을 배우고 다른 아시아 국가들처럼 한국정부와

As the 46th anniversary of Independence Day of Cote d’Ivoire is coming, IFC wishes that Korea
improves amicable relation with Cote d’Ivoire.
Cote d’Ivoire has participated in 2006 World Cup in Germany for the first time. Although Cote d’Ivoire
has not put up a good show, participation in the games has helped to improve the image of their country.
The reason is because Cote d’Ivoire was in a group with World Cup’s great players, Argentina and
Netherland, and Serbia and Montenegro that showed impressed games that Cote d’Ivoire’s team
had to be the loser of them. However, Cote d’Ivoire’s own way to play, persistent and energetic,
was a threat to every country. Although Cote d’Ivoire’s World Cup festival ended early, the game play
that showed their potential energy to be strong players was unforgettable to their soccer fans.
It is still on to see if Cote d’Ivoire will be a rising star player of the representative
African country in farther World Cup games.
August 7th, 2006 is Cote d’Ivoire’s 46th Independence Day. Cote d’Ivoire is a central
West African country and famous as “Ivory Coast”. It became a colony of France on March 10th
1893 and after French governor General Binger was appointed, Cote d’Ivoire became a
Federation of French West Africa with the Capital Province Darkar, Senegal from 1904 to 1958.
In 1956, as the foreign reform law had enacted, many rights of France had turned over to West
African countries. After that, in December 1958, Cote d'Ivoire became an autonomous republic within
the French community as a result of a referendum that brought community status to all members of
the old Federation of French West Africa except Guinea, which had voted against association.
Cote d’Ivoire borders Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north, Ghana
to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. The official
language is French, but there are over 60 languages of minority races.
The political system in Cote d'Ivoire is president-dominated. The executive is personified
in the president, elected for a 5-year term. For administrative purposes, Cote d'Ivoire is
divided into 19 regions, 58 departments, and 196 communes. The Ivoirian economy is largely market-based
and depends heavily on the agricultural sector. Principal exports are petroleum, cocoa, coffee,
pineapples, tuna, rubber, and tropical woods. Especially, Cote d'Ivoire is famous as the top
country of producing cocoa. Also the natural mineral resources of gold, diamonds, manganese, iron,
etc., and energy resources of petroleum and gas are plenty. In spite of political crisis, the
signs of economic and business recovery were encouraging. The famous tourist’s sites are
Grand Bassam, the first capital city that has remains of the colonial period and the museum of
traditional dress, Sasandra, famous for beautiful beaches, National Parks including Tai
National Park that is designated as National Treasure in UNESCO's Memory of the world, of
Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in the capital city, St Petro famous as the second port city
with the beautiful borders, History Museum in Abidjan, and etc. Also dyed art works of Korhogo
and masks are famous. There are high-quality hotels and greens.

Cote d'Ivoire is happy for the Korea-Africa ministerial conference held in April 2006 in
Seoul for solving the economic conflicts that Africa has faced.
Cote d'Ivoire has various natural resources and capability to many business parts it welcomes
investors of Korean companies and it is building infrastructure for investment and statute in
amity of foreign investment. Especially, Cote d'Ivoire expects to learn the advantages of
economy, society, and IT industry of Korea and to keep a relationship in amity with Korean
government and businessmen for mutual profits like other Asian countries.
